Montjuïc Mountain - Montaña de Montjuïc
The enchanted mountain.
Prepare to be enchanted in the Montjuïc district (The Mountain of the Jews, named for the Jewish community that lived here in the late 14th century). The Spanish Square at the foot of Montjuïc is the site of the Palau Nacional (the National Art Museum of Catalonia) and its "magic fountain", the theatre of a spectacular sound and light show at nightfall.
About five minutes away from the Caixa Forum Barcelona cultural centre, the Poble Espanyol was specially designed for the Universal Exhibition of 1929. Many typical Spanish monuments are situated here.
Then, head to Montjuic Park via the escalators, or take the picturesque Montjuïc cable car where the facilities from the 1992 Barcelona Olympics are still in place. Once at the top of Montjuïc Mountain, enjoy the views over the Mediterranean near to the Montjuïc fortress and the old canons.
